About
One firm, and why the domain says otherwise
A removals company that publishes a glossary, on a domain that sounds like a listings site. This page explains both halves of that sentence.
No memberships we do not hold, no awards we have not won, and no total of moves completed invented for a home page.
The disclaimer first
This is one removals company. We do not list, rank or compare other firms. Nobody pays to appear on this site. There are no affiliate links, no paid placements, no advertising and no referral arrangements. If a page here mentions another kind of business — a licensed waste carrier, a valuer, a solicitor — it is because the work is not ours to do, and we have no relationship with whoever you find.
We would rather say that at the top of this page and at the top of the home page than let somebody work it out three clicks in and feel misled. The domain describes how the content is arranged, not what the business is.
Why a glossary
Because we got tired of spending the first ten minutes of every survey explaining the same six words. A backload is not a service. Self storage and container storage are different products. Fully insured means almost nothing on its own. Man and van means two crew at one firm and a driver with an empty van at another.
None of that is secret and none of it is complicated. It simply is not written down anywhere a customer would find it, because the firms that benefit from the ambiguity have no reason to write it down and the firms that do not have never bothered.
We are describing the trade, not just ourselves
The glossary says what each word means across removals generally, including where the honest answer reflects badly on common practice. It is written by a firm with an interest, which is worth knowing when you read it, and we have tried to be plain rather than flattering.
It also means several entries work against us. The section on shared loads says when one is better value than the service we would rather sell. The clearance entry says we cannot legally do part of what people ask for. The backload entry explains a trick we do not use and some of our competitors do.
What we actually do
Household and commercial removals across the UK, throughout Europe by road, and worldwide by sea and air. Packing, storage, and the customs work that comes with an international move. The entries set out the six things people search for and what each one buys.
What we will not do
Dispose of anything, because carrying waste for disposal requires a licence we do not hold. Value belongings or advise on probate. Quote a figure over the telephone without a survey, because it would be a guess that turns into a conversation on your moving day.
And we will tell you when you do not need us — a single item across a city is a courier, and a clearance needs somebody licensed for at least part of it.
Send us somebody else’s quotation
We mean this. If you have a figure from another firm and cannot tell what service it is for, send it over and we will read it. It costs you nothing, it costs us ten minutes, and it is frequently the difference between two quotations that look far apart and are quoting different things.
